Let's Give Thanks
Manya Cramer

On the fourth Thursday in November, families gather to celebrate Thanksgiving. Americans travel to be with their loved ones for the holiday. It is one of the busiest travel times of the year. On Thanksgiving Day, people feast on turkey and stuffing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. Thanksgiving started as a holiday to give thanks to God for the harvest and His blessings.

Conversation A

(in the Jungle Café)

Taylor:  Happy Thanksgiving, Tina!
Tina:     Thanks, Taylor. I’m excited to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family.

Taylor:  Being with family is important on Thanksgiving.

Tina:     It is. We enjoy the time together.

Taylor:  Does your family eat a lot for Thanksgiving?

Tina:     Yes, we do! We love to feast on turkey and stuffing.

Taylor:  So everyone is really full after dinner!

Conversation B

Tina:     Hey, Taylor, do you want to have Thanksgiving dinner with my family?

Taylor:  That would be great! What can I bring?

Tina:     Well, I’m bringing sweet potatoes.

Taylor:  Is anyone bringing cranberry sauce?

Tina:     No. But my mother makes cranberry sauce for us every year.

Taylor:  How about something sweet?

Tina:     Good idea! We all love pumpkin pie.

Taylor:  OK. I’ll bring that!
