Mini Golf Fun
Ruth Devlin

Mini golf is fun for all ages. There are 18 holes in a mini golf course. At each hole, you put your ball on the green and hit it. You want to hit your ball into the hole. How many strokes did it take? Write that number down. After that, your turn is over. Then your friends play. After everyone plays 18 holes, you add up your number of strokes. That is your score. The person with the lowest score wins!

What does Matt like to do?

Conversation A

(in the Jungle Café)

Megan: Look at this, Matt. There is a new mini golf course in town.

Matt:    Fun! We should go and play.

Megan: Are you good at mini golf?

Matt:    I’m just OK.

Megan: I like to play, but I’m not very good.

Matt:    You have seven strokes to hit the ball into a hole.

Megan: Sometimes I need all seven!

Conversation B

Matt:    I like to play mini golf with friends. We have a good time as we walk to each green.

Megan: Yeah, that’s fun. We cheer when someone hits their ball into a hole.

Matt:    We laugh when we add up our scores, too. Someone’s score is usually bad.

Megan: Yeah, it’s usually mine!

Matt:    My score is never the lowest. So I never win.

Megan: You’ll win someday.
