What do people clean before Lunar New Year?
Conversation A
(in the studio)
Greg: Welcome, Tara! Happy Lunar New Year!
Tara: Thank you!
Greg: You know a lot about different cultures. What do people do to prepare for this holiday?
Tara: They clean their whole house. And they put up many red decorations with snake designs on them.
Greg: Why snakes?
Tara: Because it’s the Year of the Snake.
Greg: Oh, that’s right. What else do people do?
Tara: They prepare red envelopes, of course. And they buy lots of snacks, fruit and other food.
Conversation B
Greg: The holiday lasts for days, right? So they enjoy a lot of meals with friends and relatives?
Tara: Yes. Wives spend New Year’s Eve and the first day of New Year with their husband’s family.
Greg: When was that?
Tara: That was yesterday and today.
Greg: What about tomorrow?
Tara: Tomorrow will be the second day of New Year. So families visit the wives’ parents and relatives.
Greg: How nice! They get to see lots of relatives.
Tara: And their children, too! It’s great.
