Aquariums and You!
Joseph Calpin

Do you enjoy watching fish? Why not set up an aquarium in your home? A freshwater aquarium is lots of fun. First, choose a good tank. Then choose fish, plants or maybe frogs for your aquarium. You can get decorations, too. But choose carefully. Some decorations, such as shells, are not good for freshwater aquariums. Setting up an aquarium can take weeks. You have to get the aquarium’s environment just right for your fish. But when you’re done, you’ll have a nice aquarium to enjoy.

Conversation A

(in the office)

James: Good morning, Alice! What are you doing?

Alice:   I’m reading about setting up an aquarium.

James: Why are you reading about that?

Alice:   Because I’m going to set up a freshwater aquarium.

James: Nice. Freshwater aquariums are fun.

Alice:   Yes, I’m excited. I just bought my tank yesterday.

James: Is it a big one?

Alice:   It is! It can hold a lot of fish.

Conversation B

James: What kind of fish will you get?

Alice:   I’m not sure. I’m still thinking about it. There are so many kinds!

James: My friend has a few frogs in his aquarium.

Alice:   Maybe I’ll get one, too.

James: So, how will you decorate your aquarium?

Alice:   I want shells. But those aren’t good for freshwater fish.

James: Oh, right. The fish’s environment has to be perfect.
